Round 1 (KM)

I am loving your college prompt deck! Been making collages, but using it is also helping me to think about paintings and other things that I have made that need ONE MORE step to feel finished. Thank you for including me!

Collage has always been a gateway to new ideas and a way into my subconscious. Your deck makes the process more direct and accessible.
THANK YOU!
:)

What are your initial thoughts about the deck?

Clear, simple, effective and powerful. Using the deck helps to eliminate the disruption of flow that happens when trying to decide on the next step to take. It feels good to be guided while making!

Were the instructions helpful?

Yes! Consider modifying 'Most of them will be bad.' to something like 'Most of the collages will be bad.' Or 'attempts' or 'creations' or some other language that clarifies what will be bad.

Would it be more or less appealing to remove the 'you' in these rules: 'You can combine as many
cards as you like.' and 'You can choose to skip a card.'? Possible alterations: 'Combining or cards is allowed' or 'Combining cards is an option' or 'Try combining cards' and 'Combining or skipping cards is allowed' etc etc.

Did you make any collages?

Yes!

If not, what stopped you?

If you did, were the prompts clear?

Yes! And succinct. Very useful!

What would you like to see added?

Add an 'e' to the small typo 'envelop' in this prompt: 'Collage must contain part of an envelop'.

Add a prompt that encourages and incorporates writing as a tool for developing the image. Maybe: 'Write about the current college for 3 minutes without stopping. Use an idea or image from the writing.'

Other random prompt possibilities:
'Repeat the same shape 3, 5 or 10 times'
'Use scale to develop a foreground and background'
'Use a color that generates a feeling'
'Crop'

What do you think should be taken out?

Nothing

What would you otherwise change about the deck?

I would add prompts that help to generate concept by drawing a personal connection to the maker. Something like: 'Use a color that is uncomfortable.' or 'Create a shape that represents anger.' or 'Visualize a memory from childhood for one minute with eyes closed. Open eyes and respond in the collage.' etc etc

I would also add more open prompts to stimulate imagination/internal images like 'Represent water' or 'Make a shape that looks like Mom' or 'Use an element from a reoccuring dream'

Could you see yourself using the deck in your own practice?

Yes! This is already happening! And using the deck to create collages is sparking ideas for my other work!

Also, I am tempted to add additional prompts/cards that relate to my own process.
