Round 1 (DL)

What are your initial thoughts about the deck?

This is probably in your plans but I would like the box and the cards to be more sturdy so they could be carried around in a backpack or something. I basically destroyed my deck with spilling water and crushing it by keeping it in with my art supplies.

I thought the first time I did it was one of the most successful because my first card was make a new collage. This allowed me to spend some time making things that were natural to me before I messed with it and I liked that experience. I guess I was following the rules fairly strictly but maybe starting with something could be helpful to some vs. jumping right into the prompts.

I also found that this deck made me work very quickly for no reason at all. I did get some prompts that had a time restriction but I naturally felt rushed during the experience and I'm not sure why. It was fun in a way because I normally work very slow but it was also oddly stressful.

Were the instructions helpful?

The instructions really made me look at the pieces I was making differently which helped in terms of ideation. They also challenged me to use materials I wouldn't have reached for naturally. Also, they were a lot of fun. Even the ones that made me mad were fun.

Did you make any collages?

YES!! And the cards inspired me to make more than I would have otherwise.

If not, what stopped you?

Time did stop me for a bit (having time to sit down and do this) but it actually was quite fast once I started.

If you did, were the prompts clear?

The prompts were very clear.

What would you like to see added?

I mentioned this above but I think starting with something was often helpful. Sometimes, I just took some time to add whatever I wanted and according to the rules, that was allowed so maybe I just need to be more relaxed...haha.

I would like to see some prompts that make you take more time. Maybe even add something to it each day over a week or something.

The video I listed above also makes me want to consider more 3-D elements.

What do you think should be taken out?

I found some of the cards did not work well together but I also felt fine choosing a new card if I felt it wasn't working. I really did try to do everything according to the cards for the added challenge but I do remember specifically one that asked to use garbage and we just took it out so I was like...noooooooo!

What would you otherwise change about the deck?

I don't think I'd change anything except the actual construction.

Could you see yourself using the deck in your own practice?

Absolutely. I have already started thinking about a new book using this deck as a starting point. I would love to have a deck in my art supplies to use whenever I need a little push or a little fun.
