Focus Group (Testing Round 2)

Image
Did some group user testing this last week.  Took some pics.  Waiting for user surveys to be returned. Overall, they seemed to enjoy the experimentation with the medium. They were all faced down drawing cards the entire time. About 50/50 split between those who liked what they made enough to keep and those who enjoyed the process but abandoned the collages they made. (its a pretty nice sweet spot)       .         .    .    .    .         JC What are your initial thoughts about the deck?   Was having the instructions helpful? Yes, the verbal instructions were helpful. The instructions card is necessary when I don't have the verbal instructions. Were the prompts clear? Most, yes. I was confused by the one that suggested a "page bleed," which is also a phrase not everyone knows. It could be more descriptive like "create a collage that extends beyond the page."   What would you...

Round 1 (DL)

What are your initial thoughts about the deck? This is probably in your plans but I would like the box and the cards to be more sturdy so they could be carried around in a backpack or something. I basically destroyed my deck with spilling water and crushing it by keeping it in with my art supplies.  I thought the first time I did it was one of the most successful because my first card was make a new collage. This allowed me to spend some time making things that were natural to me before I messed with it and I liked that experience. I guess I was following the rules fairly strictly but maybe starting with something could be helpful to some vs. jumping right into the prompts. I also found that this deck made me work very quickly for no reason at all. I did get some prompts that had a time restriction but I naturally felt rushed during the experience and I'm not sure why. It was fun in a way because I normally work very slow but it was also oddly stressful....

::::: UPDATES ::::: Cards / instructions have been updated to correct spelling and include additional instructions. After some time I have received about 60% of user feedback. Although it isn't as much as I was hoping for at this point but it is better than nothing. After reading through the feedback one big comment was given from a couple of users. They seem to have a difficult time starting the process. The ambiguity of the project seem to give some a hard time thinking about what they should be doing. So I have added instructions to create a collage within 5 minutes before you draw the first card. Once 5 minutes have passed draw a card to start a new collage or use towards their current collage.  html / css / js Ignoring the general disinterest I have for coding, the p5.js web design is currently at a stand still. I'm not crazy about the last version with the stacked deck I showed last week. I think I'd rather keep it simplified and flat. Add more texture to feel closer...

Round 1 (SB)

The deck was fun to play with though! What are your initial thoughts about the deck? Interesting, fun-sounding concept that could help jump-start creating, especially during a slump  Were the instructions helpful? yes  Did you make any collages? yes, 3  If not, what stopped you?   If you did, were the prompts clear? yes  What would you like to see added? maybe some cooperative prompts, or suggestions of wet/non collage media?    What do you think should be taken out?    nothing What would you otherwise change about the deck? content-nothing! I would love to see a full version with design elements....maybe so the cards themselves could be used in collages Could you see yourself using the deck in your own practice? yes. Overall it was a fun experience!

What are your initial thoughts about the deck? it’s dope, was excited to play.  Was a little confused about if I was making a new collage for each card?   Were the instructions helpful? almost always   Did you make any collages? I made four collages    If not, what stopped you?   If you did, were the prompts clear? there was only one that I had a hard time with but after reading a few times I was pretty sure I understood. It wasn’t stressful though because you can skip a card if you want.   What would you like to see added? in my fantasy they would be pre cut cards But seriously- my only thing might me to add a bit of clarity about what expectation there is about how many collages you will make and when you begin a new one. There are a few cards that talk about a new collage so that made me wonder if that meant the rest of the time I was supposed to be working on the same one or if I can end and begin at will.    What do you think should be t...

Round 1 (FK)

I tried your collag e prototy pe last night and have some feedback. My first response is - it is great, I had fun making a couple collages.  I was on a zoom call with my niece (12) and nephew (13) in Milwaukee last night and decided to ask them to try it out with me. So we had a little collage party. I know it is not you intended audience, but I thought it would be fun to see how they liked your the collage game. Thoughts from my niece and nephew: Fun Family Game Use newspaper ads to collage with, especially food ads Creative Some of the cards they did not want to do, aka remove an item, cut in half - but they liked the results when they did the task. The look on my niece's face when I said cut the collage in half, she was like no, then when I said tape swap sides and tape it back together she was like ok with a big smile.   They also got creative when I said cut an element and glue it on backwards, they said things like "oh I was cutting the backside ...
